Arguably the Biggest Local Competition

The Singapore Community Games is a multi-sports competition held all around Singapore, bringing sports to the heart of the community and connecting residents of all ages, races and living across estates.

Through SCG 2018, the community centres aim to develop a strong and inclusive sporting culture, with enhanced social cohesion and community bonding by linking people through mass participation and involvement.

The competition will be held from 11 March to 13 May 2018 at Our Tampines Hub and Keat Hong CC. 

Registration for Singapore Community Games 2018 opens at the start of every year. This year, it is on 2 January 2018 and closed on 12 February 2018.

Matches for the tournament will be held on weekday evenings from 7.30 pm onwards and weekends from 9.00 am onwards. 

 The tournament starts off with the single round-robin format in the preliminaries and is followed by a single knockout system in the subsequent stages.

First Match

The first match happens on the 11 March at Keat Hong CC, 9:00am.

Who are the Organizers?

So who is organizing it?

The People’s Association (PA) and Community Sports Club Council
are the organizers of Singapore Community Games 2018 and it is supported by the National
Sports Associations (NSAs) of the various sports, such as the Singapore Badminton Association.

What are the Rules of the Competition?

The team competes on a 5 vs 5 match, here are the 5 matches.

  • Men’s Doubles Masters
  • Woman’s Singles
  • Mixed Doubles
  • Men’s Singles
  • Men’s Doubles

The team composition shall consist of a minimum of 8 participants and up to a maximum of 14 participants. 

Among these participants in each team, there must be representation from at least two ethnic groups (based on the four classifications of Chinese, Indian, Malay and Others) among the participants who are Singapore Citizens/PRs in a team. 

Ethnicity of the non-Citizen and non-PR participants will not count toward this ethnic requirement.

No repetition of players is allowed.

Rules for Singapore Community Games Badminton

The number of non-Singapore Citizens (including Singapore PRs) who can be registered and fielded is two participants per team. 

Players listed in the list of national athletes shall be ineligible to register and participate in the tournament. The list as stated in Annex B( in the rules page) is based on the advice of the Singapore Badminton Association.

Objectives of this Competition

Apart from lots of fun and exercise, this competitive has 4 main objectives. This can be clearly seen through the rules that they have created. 

a) Develop a strong and inclusive sporting culture with passion and enthusiasm in sports from all walks of life; 

b) Enhance social cohesion and community bonding by linking and involving people through participation in the Games; 

c) Act as a channel to reach out to residents of all ages and races; and 

d) Promote active and healthy living and cultivate volunteerism.
